Pele is considered the greatest soccer player of all time. Pele was named one of Time's 100 most influential people of the 20th century. He was listed in the Guinness World Records for most career goals scored in soccer and was, for a period, the best paid athlete in the world. He was given the nickname "The King Pele" or "The King" and was the only player to win three FIFA World Cups. Pele is also hailed as a national hero for his accomplishments in football and for his vocal support of policies to improve social conditions for the poor.
