Make mental health days ‘normal’...

Since the pandemic hit, studies have shown that even though we’re taking fewer sick days, more workers are burning out because they’re working harder, longer and not taking holidays. Clinical psychologist Dr. Jodie Lowinger says employees aren’t taking mental health breaks, to avoid being considered weak or slacking. But our “suck it up and get on with it” attitude is having a negative effect, with estimates that mental ill-health costs billions per year. She says making mental health days a normal part of work life will go a long way to improving employee productivity and happiness.

Personally, I waited all year to take vacation in the hopes that borders would open and warm travel would resume. No such luck. I was told to take time off or lose it and found the days off underwhelming to say the least. Unless you’re an outdoorsy person (which I am totally NOT, unless you count swimming in a pool or hanging out on a boat, Lol), there isn’t much to do. I ended up cleaning out some closets and drawers and inevitably felt drawn back into work given the blurry lines of work/home. I did manage to find a few fun things to do, but for me there is no substitute for jet setting to a warm and sunny destination. Gotta hang in there a little longer though. At least the days are longer, weather’s getting warmer and vaccine roll out is in full force. Just sayin’ :) Hugs. XO

Blessings,
