Meaning in the meaningless?...

When we attach value to things that aren't love - the money, the car, the house, the prestige- we are loving things that can't love us back. We are searching for meaning in the meaningless.

- Marianne Williamson, Return to Love

Hmmm. Well, for sure, but although money can't buy happiness, it can make you more comfortable, Lol. Seriously though, there's no glory in being strapped for cash either. Some of these "things" can symbolize thrilling results and a wonderful sense of accomplishement for our hard-earned efforts. I guess it all depends on our intentions. Just sayin' :)

Love, fear and baggage....

Love in your mind produces love in your life. This is the meaning of heaven.
Fear in your mind produces fear in your life. This is the meaning of hell.

- Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles"

Sounds simple enough and such a worthy pursuit. Our inner worlds can be pretty complex though. How much baggage are we carrying around and how many triggers are we contending with? Then put two or more people together and watch the drama unfold. Things can be bigger than us at times, even if we're willing to seek assistance. Just sayin' :) Hugs.

The power of kindness...

It occurs to me that the person we may need to be the kindest to is ourself. Life is challenging. Even when things are running smoothly, there are technology glitches, bills to pay, friction with someone or other. We deal with stress on an ongoing basis and I think we could give ourselves a tad more credit for managing everything. Just sayin' :)

"What you do comes from what you think"...

You may belive that you are responsible for what you do, but not for what you think. The truth is that you are responsible for what you thinnk because it is only at this level that you can exercise choice. What you do comes from what you think.

- Marianne Williamson, A Return to love: Reflections on the Principles of "A Course in Miracles."
(Author of 9 books, including four New York Times #1 bestsellers. She is also the founder of Project Angel Food, a meals-on-wheels program that serves homebound people with AIDS. Her latest professional venture is a weekly radio show on "Oprah and Friends", which airs on XM radio).

That's pretty much the consensus, according to helping professionals from all walks of life. Just sayin' :) Hugs.

Letting go....

Anything you can't control is teaching you how to let go.

- Jackson Kiddard, author and polymath (a person of great learning in several fields of study).

Great perspective. Probably takes some time and effort to pull this off. Just sayin' :)

Speak up or listen?...

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

- Winston Churchill

I think we can get caught up in wanting to be right, or being in the know. By contrast, we can have a tough time saying some of our truths. Interesting... Just sayin' ;)

True power...

You will continue to suffer
If you have an emotional reaction
to everything that is said to you.

True power is sitting back
And observing everything
with logic; true power is
restraint.

If words control you that
means everyone else can
control you; breathe and
allow things to pass.

My favourite therapist says we all have our triggers and the big issue is that they can silently run our lives. If we're willing, we can dig in and remove some of these pesky sensitivies. Just sayin' :)

Soulful...

I think I fall in love a little bit with anyone who shows me their soul. This world is so guarded and fearful. I appreciate rawness so much.

- Emery Allen

I think vulnerability and authenticity are hugely under-rated! Just sayin' :)

Change is painful...

Growth is painful. Change is painful. But nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don't belong.

I agree. Faking it takes work and starts to wear prettty thin. Just sayin' ;)

Strong but not rude...

Be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not weak; be bold, but not bully; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not arrogant.

Never hurts to refine our communication and relationship skills, that's for sure. Just sayin' ;)

Belief...

Always believe in yourself. Do this and no matter where you are, you will have nothing to fear.

- Hayao Miyazaki

Religious or not, the saying "God helps those who help themselves" continues to ring true. If you've ever tried to "save" someone who cannot seem to mobilize themselves, it is beyond exhausting. We each have to find our own path to happiness, motivation and inspiration. We cannot act for others. Just sayin' :) Hugs.

Listen and learn?...

When you talk, you are only repeating what you already know. But if you listen, you may learn something new.

When can get caught up in wanting to be right, can't we? Just sayin' ;)

Confession of character...

People do not seem to realize that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson (An American essayist, lecturer and poet, known for developing certain ideas such as individuality, freedom, the ability for humankind to realize almost anything, and the relationship between the soul and the surrounding world).

As they say, we are what we think, believe and focus on. Just sayin' :)

Welcome to society...

Welcome to society,
We hope you enjoy your stay,
And please feel free to be yourself,
AS long as it's in the right way,
Make sure you love your body,
Not too much or we'll tear you down,
We'll bully you for smiling,
And then wonder why you frown,
We'll tell you that you're worthless,
That you shouldn't make a sound,
And then cry with all the others
As you're buried in the ground,
You can fall in love with anyone,
As long as it's who we choose,
And we'll let you have your opinions,
But please shape them in our views,
Welcome to society,
We promise that we won't deceive,
And one more rule now that you're here,
There's no way that you can leave.

- e.h.

So true. It's a bit of a game. Just sayin' ;)

The heart of clarity...

Despite how open, peaceful, and loving you attempt to be, people can only meet you as deeply as they've met themselves. This is the heart of clarity.

- Unknown

As they say, we are each on our own path. Maybe we can allow for the limitations of others and of ourselves. Just sayin' :) Hugs.

Seared with scars...

Out of suffering
have emerged
the strongest souls;
the most massive characters
are seared with scars.

- Khalid Gibran (from The Prophet, the best known work of 26 prose poetry fables written in English by Gibran, a Lebanese-American artist, philosopher and writer. The Prophet has been translated into over 40 different languages and has never been out of print).

It has been said that our suffering allows us to cultivate compassion and empathy, so that we may truly connect with our fellow man. Just sayin' :) Hugs.

Made of so much beauty...

You are not your age,
Nor the size of the clothes you wear,
You are not a weight,
Or the colour of your hair.
You are not your name,
Or the dimples in your cheeks,
You are all the books you read,
And all the words you speak,
You are your croaky morning voice,
And the smiles you try to hide,
You're the sweetness in your laughter,
And every tear you've cried,
You're the songs you sing so loudly,
When you know you're all alone,
You're the places that you've been to,
And the one that you call home,
You're the things that you believe in,
And the people that you love,
You're the photos in your bedroom,
And the future you dream of,
You're made of so much Beauty,
But it seems that you forgot,
When you decided that you were defined,
By all the things you're not.

- e.h. (Eric Hansen, a bilingual American writer, with a Masters in literature of the German Middle Ages. Known for his humorous and critical books).

A lovely notion, beautifully said. I think we do forget. Just sayin' :) Hugs.

Love can be hard...

Love can be hard. Love requires you to be kind when you are angry, patient when you feel anxious, compassionate when you judge others, caring when you feel apathetic, trust when you've been wronged, let go when you want to hold on, take risks when you're scared, to always see the lesson and never look back once you've decided.

- Jackson Kiddard

What I find interesting is how good it feels to cut people (ourselves included) some slack. Just sayin' :) Hugs

Less inclined...

Women are not moody. We simply have days when we are less inclined to put up with crap.

- Karen Darby

Ha ha ha. But seriously, although we all pobably feel like that some of the time, women are somewhat burdened by emotion, in my opinion. Just sayin' ;)

Bitter or better?...

You either get bitter or you get better. It's that simple. You either take what has been dealt to you and allow it to make you a better person, or you allow it to tear you down. The choice does not belong to fate, it belongs to you.

- Josh Shipp

On the other hand, some people really do appear to have it better (and clearly have fame/more money/better looks). But we don't know what those people face emotionally behind closed doors and we do not know what their fate beholds (the death of a chile?). Some of us die extremely young as well. Just sayin' :) Hugs.
